About Beth Kappa

My body of work surrounds the study of seasonal color trends. I find profound connections between color, media and the individual. Color is a tool that reflects individuality and character but is also a manipulative force affecting mood and emotion. Color trends reflect indiacations of time periods and emotions; they are interpreted in what surrounds us everyday.  Color palettes are used to target specific audiences and turn you on to new trends and ideas.

In my artwork, I research color trends released seasonally from Pantone Inc., and collect the interpretations in magazines, catalogues and advertisements, analyzing the color palettes and interpreting them into my own paintings and drawings.  I deconstruct the images I collect and translate them into the color palettes I use when creating my work.

My subject matters’ focus is on the design relationship between color and the object. I search for images which have a design that intrigues and inspires me.  I work with these images in various ways; direct representation, line studies and abstraction. I use these color studies in my paintings to evoke mood and create a complete visual experience to portray my individuality and style.  Layer by layer the paintings become transcripts of artistic process and modified design. In their totality, the artwork becomes not only a document of process, but also a record of color trends.
