About Beth Kappa

My paintings involve studies of color combined with the formal elements of art such as line, shape, texture, etc. My goal is to use these elements to create interesting and emotional compositions. Color is the starting point and inspiration behind my work. In the past I have focused on colors that are popular, trendy and easily seen in everyday media. Currently, I am combining this interest with research on color palettes that were popular in decades past.

In my artwork, I research color trends both current and historically. I collect these interpretations from magazines, catalogues and advertisements, analyzing the color palettes and interpreting them into my own paintings and drawings. The subjects of the images I choose to paint are deconstructions of still life’s, portraits, landscapes and objects from everyday life.

I find profound connections between color and the individual. Color is a tool that reflects individuality and character but is also a manipulative force affecting mood and emotion. Layer by layer my paintings become transcriptions of artistic process, design, and the simple human reaction to the formal elements of art.
